A NEW FACE COMING TO CCC Mackay Smith will be coming to us on Saturday, March 13, to begin work with us in an internship agreement that has been worked out and approved by the Session. He comes from First ARP Church in Gastonia, is an Erskine College graduate, began his seminary studies at Westminster in Philadelphia, and plans to complete his Master of Divinity at Reformed Seminary in Charlotte by spring 2011. Mackay is a fine young man, has excellent potential for great service both at CCC and in the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. He will work with Ashley in our youth program and alongside Bill, Bryan, James, and Ken in general pastoral duties. And he will spend time completing his studies for ministry.
INQUIRER'S CLASS Interested in finding out more about CCC? The Inquirer's Class is our way of orienting prospective members to the history, doctrine, and ongoing ministries of Christ Community. The first session will be Friday March 19 from 6-8:30 p.m. with dinner provided. Class will continue the next morning at 9. If you have any questions or would like to reserve your seat, please contact Amy Munson (via email or 288-2365 ext.#23). Hope to see you there.
WHAT IS THE 11:4 GROUP? Hebrews 11:4 speaks of Abel and says, "though he died, he still speaks." A new men's small group will be starting in a few weeks in order to read short excerpts of the writings of our fathers (and mothers!) in the faith and meet to better understand their wisdom and apply it in our lives. God has given us a rich spiritual heritage through the record of how His Spirit has moved through the centuries. We have a treasure in old books that can give us a perspective on the Christian life very different from our own generation's and, sometimes, vastly more helpful. This won't be hard literature. Instead, we will read short, understandable pages and listen together to the record of how God worked in our spiritual ancestors. The goal is to learn from them and grow together in Christ.
The group's meeting time and day will be determined based on the availability of those interested. If you would like to know more, contact Bill Marsh.
WORLD MAGAZINE We'd like to introduce you to a fine example of a source that reflects biblical standards: WORLD Magazine. It's a bi-weekly news magazine that upholds the inerrancy and the authority of God's Word while reporting and editorializing man's activity in God's world. In WORLD, there are news reports from field reporters that travel the world - even to the war zones. Reviews of movies, books, music, and other cultural curiosities provide worthy critique from a biblical point of view. Theologians and thinkers write weekly, thought-provoking columns that shed biblical light on contemporary issues - politics, court cases, cultural trends, education, Christian living - basically all that God has made. You might say it is a "Christian" Newsweek, Time, US News, or the like, but with a fundamentally different set of principles, standards, and philosophies, all centered on the truth of God's Word.
Give WORLD a try: Support kingdom work and drink from an uncontaminated source, one that has been published for over two decades. If it's of interest to you, let the church office know. Sample copies are available in the church library. To subscribe and receive a special reduced annual rate of $37.90 (regular $49.95), click here and enter one of the following codes: new subscription - W9CM129N or gift subscription - W9CM129G.
